Today, in the Future Games Show portion of Gamescom 2021 we were treated to another taste of Jurassic World Videogames -as we received a teaser for the second part of Jurassic World Aftermath from Oculus and Coatsink.
We were lucky enough to go in-depth on the first part of the game - so make sure to check out our coverage on the YouTube channel, courtesy of the awesome Brent Kappel. With that out the way - let’s check out the teaser for the second part of the game!
At only 54 seconds we don’t get much of a taste for the second chapter in the game - but we do get hints at how this chapter will tie into the themes which will be prevalent throughout Jurassic World Dominion. We are introduced with a monologue from Doctor Ian Malcolm which talks about the fact that society has caused the de-extinction of the dinosaurs by putting technological progress before it’s own survival. This small caption from the trailer perfectly encapsulates the fundamental elements of the Jurassic Park saga as a whole and sets the tone fantastically for the world to be dealing with dinosaurs in the upcoming film.
We’re still incredibly curious about the direction this game will take. At this moment in time, the six campers from Camp Cretaceous are also stuck on the island, and the Scorpios Rex is about to escape from confinement at any moment. Is it possible that our character will inadvertently play a part in helping the Scorpios to escape once Kenji begins it’s awakening - speeding up the time in which this monster is able to escape into the wider ecosystem of Isla Nublar? With Doctor Wu and Eli Mills involved, we’re willing to bet that the antagonist from the third season of the show may pop back up - explaining why the second part of the game has released after the show.
Of course, we can also speculate about the fate of the NMS Programme Velociraptors - and where they ultimately end up on Isla Nublar. Is it possible that we could lead one of these Velociraptors down the docks - inadvertently setting for them to escape on a boat bound for the mainland whilst we meet our own gruesome demise? Only time will tell - but the potential for crossover and tie-in with the overarching elements of the pre Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom fiction which have been built-up in recent years are tantalising and exciting, to say the least. Of course, the game could go into a completely new direction - doubling down on the mystery and genetics experimentation to bring old stories back to life in the future of the franchise.
Whatever direction we take - we are excited to see Jurassic videogames at the forefront once more. Between this game, and Jurassic World Evolution 2, it is fantastic to see Universal and other brand partners really embracing the potential for creative storytelling through all mediums within the Jurassic universe. We can only hope for further stories and adventures in various different forms of media in the near future.
