If you’ve been stranded on a dinosaur-infested island with no way to reach the outside world then you may have missed the fact that Camp Cretaceous has arrived on Netflix – with the series earning the #2 spot upon its release to the public. You can read my non-spoiler review of the series here.

Today, I wanted to reflect on four specific moments found in the series which I feel setup some interesting questions for the future, and could easily be expanded upon in Jurassic World Dominion.  We’re cruising straight into spoiler territory here, so if you haven’t watched the series at this point, make sure to catchup before reading this article. You have been warned.

InGen’s Facility In Siberia

In Episode Two of Camp Cretaceous, we are introduced to an interesting concept – as the presence of Siberian Mammoth Remains all but confirms that InGen’s Martel facility in Siberia exists within the canon of the Jurassic film universe.

This facility was first teased through the Masrani Global back door back during the first film’s marketing campaign, but many fans were quick to dismiss this as being truly canon since it was never referenced within the film. The nod to the Siberian Mammoth here confirms that the facility exists. This poses an interesting question as we know that teases released from Colin Trevorrow showed that Dominion has been filming in snowy environments – so is it possible Martel facility could play a role in the upcoming sequel?

Only time will tell – but this does help to build an idea that there may be more facilities out there than just those found on Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna.

Genetic Modifications

In Episode Six we are introduced to the idea that Dr. Wu has been experimenting with the genetics of the dinosaurs who inhabit Jurassic World behind the scenes – suggesting that there may be other dinosaurs out there whose behaviour is unexpected, and therefore, unpredictable.

Is it possible that some of the dinosaurs released from Lockwood Manor could have further genetic augmentations like behavioural problems? We see the potential for this with Toro, who is isolated in the North of the island, so only time will tell as to whether or not we will see similar modifications being a factor at play in the dinosaurs in Jurassic World Dominion.

Eddie Working For Another Company

Arguably the biggest point of interest is when it comes to other companies having stakes in the work being done at Jurassic World – something which the last two points in today’s article will explore.

Firstly, we have the idea that Eddie was working for another company, something which is hinted at in Episode Five of the show when Eddie mentions doing things for the ‘other guys’. This is an interesting moment as we know from Episode Two that Eddie worked in close proximity to Dr. Wu – so how much information would he have been able to steal?

This certainly highlights how in its many years of successful operation, Jurassic World may have been quietly being infiltrated behind the scenes – something which becomes more apparent in our next point.

Mantah Corp

At the very end of Episode Two, we have a shocking moment – where it is revealed that a stolen USB Stick from Dr. Wu’s lab is plugged into a quad-copter drone to be taken off island to some shady party.

Later in the series, Sami confirms that it was her who stole the information – transferring this to a rival Biogenetics company known as ‘Mantah Corp’. Mantah Corp are a rival to Masrani Global, and sound similar to BioSyn in terms of their aims and goals – so this adds to the idea that rival companies have been attempting to steal data from Jurassic World for some time.

Could it be possible they are affiliated with Biosyn in some way? Is it possible that they will experiment with more hybrids, if the information in the lab where Wu’s USB was stolen from is anything to go by? For now, we will have to wait and see – but Dr. Wu’s line at the end of Fallen Kingdom about other companies being able to make dinosaurs too is certainly a lot more real when we consider they may have had this technology since 2015.

I think it is safe to say that Camp Cretaceous has only cracked the lid on what could be possible for the future of this franchise. Up until this point we have only followed the stories of InGen and their dinosaurs – but who knows what will happen in the future?

Recent word from Colin Trevorrow has hinted that Dominion may explore some of the plot threads from Camp Cretaceous – so perhaps we will not have to wait too long for an answer!
