As the production for Jurassic World 3 begins to ramp up next month, we can’t help but wonder what happened to the announcement for Michael Giacchino’s return. We haven’t heard anything official, despite having several other big announcements for the film’s creative side. We learned about returning producers, director, cast from the past and present, but no inclusion of Michael Giacchino in any press releases. Michael’s 2021 slate already includes films such as The Batman, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Extinct, and most likely the MCU’s Spider-Man 3, so where does Jurassic World 3 fit in?
Well, during the course of recording the last edition of The Jurassic Mailbag, thanks to listener Leighton reaching out via email about a recent Michael Giacchino live concert, we may have our answer. Back in October at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Michael GIacchino and David Arnold put on the show, Settling the Score, where the music of the two brilliant composers was put on display. During the course of the show, Colin Trevorrow came out on stage to give accolades, but was suddenly interrupted by Giacchino and told, “yea, we’re not playing Jurassic World tonight,” which then created some awkward tension and led to our possible Jurassic World 3 “announcement”. Give the video below a look for the fun interaction.
So, there you go! It’s very unofficial, but it did come directly from the source, so that’s good enough for me.
Giacchino: See ya on the next one?
Trevorrow: Yea, we’re good. Yea, yea. See you on the next one…
It would be great to have an official press release with the information, but luckily Leighton brought the concert to our attention and gave us something extremely cool to talk about during the show.
