Jurassic Park: San Diego, Dinosaurs In The Wild and Hybrids | JWE2 Dev Diary 2

The second Development Diary for Jurassic World Evolution has arrived – providing fans with a better sense for what they can expect from both the Campaign Mode and the Chaos Theory mode when the sequel releases later this year.

In this video, the team confirm that the Campaign Mode is set after the events of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, as we already knew, and that the story will follow Claire Dearing and Owen Grady as they work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to safely contain the new threat which emerged from Lockwood Manor at the end of the second Jurassic World film. It seems as though the story of Evolution 2 is set to very closely mimic the story which will no doubt be unfolding in the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion – so we are really excited to see where this story may take us. It’s worth noting that there are more returning characters from the first game – including Doctor Kajal Dua, Isaac Clement and George Lambert. It will be interesting to see where these characters factor into the story given that it is now a very different world!

Chaos Theory mode, in contrast, is defined as allowing us to become a part of the franchise in alternate timelines. The team have confirmed that there will be a ‘What If?’ scenario from each of the Jurassic Park & Jurassic World films – with the sequence for The Lost World clearly being inspired by the idea of Jurassic Park San Diego surviving the events of the second film. Whilst Jurassic Park & Jurassic World themed scenarios may be quite predictable (what if the parks stayed open we would bet!), we are very excited to see what may be in store for both Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. A ‘What If Lockwood saved the dinosaurs?’ could be a fun narrative way to revisit Sanctuary Island from the first game. It’s great seeing how excited the development team are for Chaos Theory Mode – and it is certainly something which we are excited to get hands on with when the game releases later this year.

It’s worth noting the Dev Diary also confirms a few smaller details – including both the return of the Indominus Rex and also the return of the Jurassic Park era tour vehicles. Whilst both of these elements were predictable, it is nice to see that they are present within the base game in Jurassic World Evolution 2. Seeing the Indominus Rex on Isla Nublar also reminds us that whilst the focus is not The Muertes Archipelago for the sequel, we may still get to revisit the two islands which appear more predominantly within the films and expanded media. A few other cool details in the trailer include the return of some placeable scenery – with a Tyrannosaurus Rex paddock sign present at 3:54 in the Dev Diary, and also a closer look at some of the weather effects – including the gorgeous snow storms which we have seen in prior gameplay. We also see a Monorail Track seemingly stretching across a Lagoon at 3:58 – confirming hopes that we would be able to do this within our parks.

Dev Diary 2 gets us very excited for the upcoming sequel to Jurassic World Evolution. As the title suggests, it is clear that the developers are working hard to deliver an authentic and grounded Jurassic experience – with plenty of attention paid to the smaller details which make this franchise so special to so many of us. We are incredibly excited about what the future holds for this sequel – and we can’t wait to see more of the features present in the game as we approach the release on November the 9th.
