Ever since the 2018 debut of Jurassic World Evolution, we think it is fair to say that gamers have been hungry for more Jurassic World content. For years, fans have clamoured for more video games which indulge them by immersing them in their favourite world – and Jurassic World Aftermath looks set to take the immersion to a whole new level through the use of Virtual Reality.
Announced via the Virtual Reality event Facebook Connect, and covered by the team at VR Focus, Jurassic World Aftermath is a collaboration between Universal Games and Coatsink.
Interestingly, much like the soon-to-debut Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, this video game looks set to return fans to the aftermath of the Jurassic World incident – with fans dropped into the world two years after the titular attraction fell to the dinosaurs. This places the video game straight between both the first film and Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, and may provide some interesting insight into how the facilities of the park fell into disrepair so quickly.
Interestingly, the premise of the game is that your character has been sent on a mission to recover valuable information – which, of course, goes terribly wrong. It describes you finding yourself stranded in a research facility – so we wonder if this may be the labs which were present near Main Street, or if this game may take place somewhere else entirely. The game’s main antagonists will be the Velociraptors – suggesting that this game is a non-canon endeavour since the only Velociraptor to have been on Nublar post-incident is Blue.
However, it is worth noting that there has been speculation of project IBRIS featuring more than just the Raptor squad – so perhaps we could see this explored? Time will only tell.
Whilst I am not personally a fan of the cartoony art style which the team have gone with for this particular adventure, it is a VR game which will be available on the Oculus Rift, and so we cannot discredit the game too much given the technology which it has available to make the project possible.
Regardless of medium or accessibility of a game, it is fun to see that we have new and exciting projects being made available to Jurassic fans – and I am certainly excited to see how all of the new material being produced for the franchise is received.
