Players on Xbox consoles were treated to a dinosaur-sized surprise today when Jurassic Park: Survival appeared for pre-install on the Xbox Mobile App. I think this means the release of the upcoming action-adventure game is much closer than many of us realise.
‘Pre-Install Now Available’ is often a marketing strapline which we see used on videogames as they get closer to their release date – appealing to the fact that the release is right around the corner, and fans can install content now so they are ready for when that release happens.
What this suggests to me is that we are likely to get a new trailer for Survival this Summer (possibly as soon as the Xbox Showcase on June 8th), and that a key strapline for this new marketing material will be the ability to pre-install the game. This is exciting in itself if accurate as this kind of messaging tends to appear in the final portions of a marketing cycle – which would suggest a release for the game could be as soon as September.
It is important to note that a lot of this is conjecture, but it would seem like a logical release cycle for this game and would also allow Universal to release a game in 2024 and 2025, if recent reports around a third entry in the Jurassic World Evolution franchise are to be believed.
So, what do I think we’re likely to see if another trailer is around the corner, and if it is indeed announcing that we’re much closer to launch than we realise?
Well, trailers at this point in the release timeline will genuinely be packed-full of much more gameplay to give us an idea of some of the features present in the game. We’re likely to get a flavour for some of the tools Maya has at her disposal, some of the ways she can traverse the environments of Isla Nublar, and also a sense for some of the other environments we might get to explore in the game. New details have revealed that the game will be 70GB in size – comparable to titles like Quantum Break and The Division 2 – so we can assume a substantial chunk of Nublar will be explorable in this title.
I also think we are likely to get a sense for the broader narrative here – with an idea of how Maya’s story will play out, and where it intersects the events of the 1993 film and builds on them in new ways. This is personally the element of this game I am most excited for – so I can’t wait to see what direction it takes.
Now it’s important to note this is SPECULATION, but I think this pre-install gives us a very good indication that something will be happening with Jurassic Park: Survival very soon. If you’re anything like me, then I can’t wait!
