Exciting news for Jurassic fans today as the team over at Collider have broken that Campbell Scott has joined the cast of the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion as a key character from the original Jurassic Park - none other than BioSyn’s espionage extraordinaire, Lewis Dodgson.
In the original Jurassic Park novel, and in the subsequent The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Lewis Dodgson is a key antagonist to the characters who are aligned with International Genetics. He is described as an aggressive and ruthless competitor for the organisation – who is well known to steal and poach technology from other biogenetics firms in less than legal ways. The character is even shown to have a violent and aggressive side, with the character almost drowning Sarah Harding off of the shores of Isla Sorna in the original novel.
In the films, however, Dodgson’s character has never been fully explored – as actor Cameron Thor was convicted of sex offenses. Dodgson did not appear in The Lost World, and it also means that fans have been left wondering what the character has been up to since the originally botched mission that he sent Dennis Nedry on in 1993.
The article stated this about Dodgson’s return:
The return of Dodgson, now as CEO of BioSyn if the article is accurate, poses an interesting glimpse into the story of Jurassic World Dominion. Perhaps Dodgson had representatives at the Lockwood Manor auction at the end of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom? Or, perhaps BioSyn have been busy rounding up the dinosaurs who broke lose at the end of that film, and have been storing them in secret facilities around the world for some greater purpose? It is safe to say that this is the perfect stepping-in point for the reintroduction of BioSyn as a prevalent presence within the Jurassic universe – so it will be interesting to see how the return of the organisation is handled.
Previous speculation has suggested that Dr Alan Grant, Dr Ellie Sattler and Dr Ian Malcolm have found themselves once again thrust into the limelight together as they face off against a common antagonist – so perhaps this could be the antagonist who the three will be facing when we meet them again in the sequel? Needless to say this news is incredibly exciting for fans of the franchise as it looks like a plot thread which is now over twenty-five years old may finally be wrapped up when the sequel releases.
What do you think about the return of Dodgson to the franchise? Are you hopeful that more plot threads from the original films are expanded on with his return?
