The trailer for the fourth season of Camp Cretaceous arrived today – and with it, we have a closer look at the narrative direction which the fourth season of the show will be taking. In this article we wanted to breakdown the trailer, and sprinkle in a healthy dose of speculation for what we think we will see in the upcoming series. Let’s dive in!
Firstly, it is very cool to see the Mosasaurus attack the boat whilst it is out in the open waters away from Isla Nublar. We can imagine that the Mosasaurus may have been a serious risk to people attempting to access Isla Nublar in the weeks and months after the initial incursion on the island to recover the Indominus DNA, so it is cool seeing that acknowledged here. It does make us curious as to whether the Mosasaurus ever had a run in with The Arcadia – although we would imagine she had left the waters around the island long before the transport ship arrived.
The idea of a new island is something which makes sense if the kids were planning to return to Costa Rica. If we look at a map of Costa Rica then we can see that there are the Islas Galàpagos just off of the shore line of Costa Rica. It would make sense for an organisation like Mantah Corp to position a base on one of these islands as it would mean that they are closer to Isla Nublar – allowing them to complete drone operations on the island more smoothly than would be possible from the mainland. This makes the most sense to us right now given the geography of the location – but we’re open to seeing a brand-new island. One thing is for certain – whilst some fans are disappointed that this isn’t a return to Site B, we are very excited to have a whole new location to explore within the franchise.
The advanced nature of the technology on the island is intriguing – as this provides some insight into the idea that Mantah Corp (or another organization) may be even more advanced than InGen. It’s interesting seeing them herding dinosaurs with drones as this potentially factors into the modern day ‘Jurassic World’ franchise – showing how companies may be attempting to earn good faith from the governments of the world by helping them to round up the rogue dinosaurs which escaped from Lockwood Manor. It is worth noting that the technological inclusions are interesting – but they definitely go too far with the robot dogs as we feel these are a bit to one-the-nose for the Jurassic franchise. With that said, the location here is intriguing as this certainly is not the same island we see earlier in the season – implying that, perhaps, the fourth season will become more of a globe-trotting adventure. Could Mantah Corp have swooped in and taken over the Martel Facility whilst InGen battle lawsuits from the Jurassic World incident? Only time will tell!
One interesting thing to note with this trailer is the fact that all the dinosaur designs here are the InGen designs we all know and love – which juxtaposes the brand-new design for the Saber-Toothed Tiger, which we see later in the trailer. This implies to me, at least, that the dinosaurs which are being herded and rounded on this new island are not animals which this biogenetics company created – but, rather, are dinosaurs which have been stolen from elsewhere. We know that Isla Sorna will factor into the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion to some extent, so we would not be surprised if it transpires that many of these assets have been stolen from the island – explaining the sudden absence of life on the island during the events of Fallen Kingdom. The new saber-toothed tiger also means other new prehistoric life may join the Camp Cretaceous roster – meaning a whole new era just opened up for the franchise to explore.
Towards the end of the trailer, we see a Kentrosaurus squaring off against a Tyrannosaurus Rex – and we are willing to bet that this moment may unfold on Isla Nublar or one of the other five deaths given the scene which we see after the credits. In a sequence after the credits, we see that the kids, minus Darius, once again appear to be on the aforementioned Isla Nublar – returning to one of the garage structures which we saw in the second season of the show. We are willing to bet that Mantah Corp may have kidnapped Darius at this point – forcing the kids to return to the island and help them recover something in exchange for their friend. Whether this is related to the Scorpios Rex or something else entirely we do not know, but we are willing to bet that this scenario will thrust us into a situation where Kenji’s statement about ‘not playing with friend’s lives’ will be tested, explaining the setup at the end of the third season.
Of course, we can’t end this article without touching on the return of the Spino – and it looks glorious. Scott Kreamer even hints in the recent EW article that this may be the original Spinosaurus in a brand-new environment – adding more strength to our idea that dinosaurs are being stolen from Isla Sorna. Whatever happens, we are excited to see how events in the fourth season unfolds.
That’s it for our breakdown – but we’d love to hear from you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments section and stay tuned to The Jurassic Park Podcast for all of the latest Camp Cretaceous content.
