I know this post is a little behind, but I wanted to shine the spotlight on Victoria's Cantina Productions and the newly announced Kenner themed documentary, JURASSIC TOY - THE IMPACT OF KENNER'S JURASSIC PARK LINE. Check out the Press release below:
“For Immediate Release
Toy documentary to examine historical and cultural impact of Kenner Jurassic Park toy line
JUNE 16, 2016 – Victoria’s Cantina Productions is proud to announce JURASSIC TOY – THE IMPACT OF KENNER’S JURASSIC PARK LINE. This collaborative documentary will explore the storied history of the brainchild between defunct toy company Kenner and Universal Studios Licensing. Kenner, once the world’s industry leading toy company behind Star Wars, Super Powers Collection and Ghostbusters, broke new ground with their Jurassic Park product line in 1993. The cultural impact left by this line is vast and nostalgically looked upon by millennials who once created their own adventures with Kenner’s man-versus- dinosaur lineup. To augment its historical and cultural perspective, JURASSIC TOY will feature testimony from ex-Kenner employees, select cast and crew from the Jurassic Park films, toy industry experts and the Jurassic Park fan community that keeps the memory of this storied toy line living. JURASSIC TOY is scheduled for release in 2017.
Victoria’s Cantina Productions is a San Diego-based media production company that specializes in toy and collectible reviews across a varied spectrum of properties, franchises and companies.

As you may have heard in Episode 57, after Aaron Beyer and I gushed for nearly two hours, the Kenner toy line was a huge hit among kids from the 90's. The toys were durable, built to an effective scale and loads more memorable than today's toys. This documentary will surely examine why we love these toys so much and I'm certainly excited to see the outcome from Victoria's Cantina Productions.
I reached out to Victoria, friend of the podcast, who gave me a little bit more insight into what they wish to accomplish on the project.
“Essentially, what I am trying to do is document the historical and cultural impact of Kenner’s Jurassic Park toy line. Presently, there is no dedicated documentary for this line the way there is for Star Wars, GI-Joe, and Ninja Turtles. This project will be one that finally gives this line its due and hopefully serves as a solid and thorough reference piece for anyone interested in this toy line in the future. It is being crafted with high production standards in mind and will examine all facets of this toy line and the mark it has left on the toy industry. We will look at how the line holds up today in the current toy industry climate. It will also be a very personal project, not only for me, but for many others who grew up with this toy line and remember it very fondly.”
I'm glad this is a "very personal project", because these toys are very personal to so many of us. I still have many of my original toys on my shelf, 23 years later. The Kenner Jurassic Park toys have stood the test of time and I'm interested to see the impact throughout other faithful fans. Good luck to Victoria's Cantina Productions on this lofty project.
